3 to 4 weeks from planning to completion
Cressbrook Construction completed a full kitchen refurbishment at a traditional cottage in Eyam, transforming a dark, dated kitchen into a bright, modern and practical living space. The project included removal of the existing kitchen, floor levelling, insulation, new laminated flooring, radiator replacement, and installation of a new light grey shaker-style kitchen supplied by DIY Kitchens.
Cressbrook Construction was appointed by homeowners Madelaine and Rachel to refurbish the kitchen at their cottage in Eyam. The aim was to modernise the space while retaining the character of the property. By combining quality workmanship with carefully selected materials, the finished kitchen became brighter, warmer and far more practical for everyday living.
The existing kitchen felt dark and tired despite having a workable layout. The clients had already selected a light grey shaker-style kitchen from DIY Kitchens and wanted Cressbrook Construction to complete the installation, improve insulation, replace the flooring, upgrade the heating, and deliver a complete transformation that respected the cottage’s traditional character.
The design centred around a light grey shaker-style kitchen paired with laminate worktops and insulated laminated flooring in complementary lighter tones. The lighter cabinetry was chosen to maximise natural light while maintaining the cosy feel of the cottage. A modern radiator improved comfort, creating a kitchen that balances traditional character with contemporary practicality.
The refurbishment began with the complete removal of the old kitchen, flooring and appliances. Once stripped back, the team levelled the floor and installed insulation before laying the new laminated flooring. A new, more efficient radiator was fitted to improve heating.
With the preparation complete, the new kitchen was installed, including cabinetry, laminate worktops and appliances. Every unit was carefully aligned and levelled, appliances were tested, joints sealed and finishing touches completed to ensure a high-quality finish throughout.
The completed kitchen is significantly brighter, warmer and more welcoming than before. The lighter colour palette, improved insulation, modern heating and carefully installed kitchen have transformed the room into a practical family space while preserving the charm of the Derbyshire cottage. Madelaine and Rachel were delighted with the finished result, enjoying a kitchen that is both stylish and comfortable throughout the year.
